Careers

Qntfy is a technology company sitting at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and psychology. Our mission is to use our expertise in these domains to create actionable insights about human behavior and behavioral health that will empower our customers to have a positive impact on the world. We provide products and services to non-profits, mental health practitioners, commercial clients, government agencies, and individuals. We are looking for a few clever and passionate people to join us in this mission. We pay competitively, offer traditional benefits, and have flexible work schedules and locations.

Qntfy is a primarily remote company, operating through Slack, Google Hangouts, and Zoom. However, we do have a sizeable presence in the Washington, D.C. and Boston, Massachusetts areas. We get together as a company a couple times a year, and will reimburse travel expenses incurred by employees who wish to temporarily co-locate with colleagues.

Why Work at Qntfy?

Qntfy is committed to using technology to do good. We feel that, at this moment in human history, there is an urgent need to apply data science tools to alleviating pressing public health problems such as suicide, loneliness, and depression. We are focused on these problems, and we believe that focusing on these problems is deeply rewarding.

Qntfy’s commitment to advancing human welfare starts at home, and is reflected in the way we treat employees. We offer competitive salaries, a flexible paid time off policy, top-notch medical and mental health insurance, and 401(k) matching after one year of employment.

Open Positions

Data Scientist

Qntfy is looking for an experienced and motivated data scientist to join our research and development team. Qntfy is a small (but growing) company offering a diverse array of products and services. As a result, data scientists at Qntfy tend to wear a greater number of hats than they might at larger organizations. This can range from occasionally interfacing directly with customers in a consultative role to preparing papers and presentations for academic journals or conferences (see here to get a sense of our recent work).

Responsibilities:

  • Prototype machine learning models of natural language and human behavioral data.
  • Conduct bespoke analyses using inferential statistics for internal and external clients.
  • Work directly with Qntfy engineers to add data science features to our products.
  • Communicate with peers, customers, and partners to foster cooperation and development.
  • Effectively estimate time to implement designs.

Qualifications:

We recognize that “data science” is a broad term, and that highly qualified data scientists come from a wide variety of backgrounds and career trajectories. As such, we do not have a rigid checklist of qualifications, but we do expect successful candidates to be able to demonstrate extensive experience with most of the following:

  • Common machine learning algorithms and/or advanced inferential statistical techniques.
  • Standard Python data science tools (e.g., Pandas, scikit-learn; some of us have a soft spot for R and use it occasionally, but we expect data scientists to largely adhere to a Python-based ecosystem).
  • Common flavors of SQL and SQL databases.
  • Linux operating systems.
  • Analysis of natural language data.
  • Analysis of (especially observational) human behavioral data (e.g., survey data, psychological inventories).
  • Basic project management tools and processes.
  • Communicating the results of quantitative work, orally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with deep learning frameworks.
  • Experience with technologies from the following list: Kafka, Docker, Mesos, Marathon, Kubernetes, Go.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, behavioral science, psychology, mental health, and/or the healthcare industry.

Similarly, we do not have strict educational requirements for data scientists, but of course advanced degrees in quantitative disciplines (broadly construed) are viewed favorably. Our current team of data scientists have backgrounds in bioengineering, cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, and chemistry.

Qntfy is committed to fostering and supporting a creative and diverse environment. Qntfy is an equal opportunity employer, and as such will consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

As a SRE at Qntfy, you will have the freedom and responsibility to recommend and implement core architectural changes in support of our long-term technological vision. We have on-premises and AWS deployments to manage and are looking to increase our use of Kubernetes.

  • Design and implement the systems to support major new features for our platform.
  • Translate customer needs into technical requirements and produce stable solutions.
  • Effectively estimate time to implement solutions.
  • Plan, execute, and maintain infrastructure as code.

Qualifications:

  • BS or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, other related degree, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience with DevOps, SysAdmin, and/or datacenter operations.
  • Ability to architect and deploy core services to support distributed systems while maintaining flexibility and high-quality documentation.
  • Strong work-ethic and passion for problem solving in the real world.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and/or Mesos/Marathon.
  • Experience provisioning new systems in a reproducible and maintainable fashion (including the use of technologies like Ansible, Terraform, and Kops).
  • Proficiency with AWS, Linux systems, and supporting services.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and how to implement them in the real world.
